T C Rowan is an Oxfordshire steel fabricator based on the Thorpe Way Industrial Estate in Banbury, OX16. We design, fabricate and erect structural steelwork across the whole county from our own workshop, with our own erection team, so a single firm carries every Oxfordshire project from the first survey drawing to the final bolt. If you need steel fabrication anywhere in Oxfordshire, you are dealing with the people who will weld it, not a broker passing the work on.
A full-range steel fabricator for the whole county
Being based in the heart of Oxfordshire means we cover the full service range across the county, not a narrow slice of it. We fabricate and install:
- Structural steelwork: beams, columns, portal frames and complete steel packages for extensions, new builds and commercial schemes
- Industrial steelwork: steel frames for warehouses, units and plant, including mezzanines and access steelwork
- Steel-framed buildings: residential, agricultural and commercial frames, manufactured and erected by us
- Architectural steel: feature staircases, balustrades, balconies, gates and railings
Everything is made in our Banbury workshop to BS EN 1090 execution standards. We are CE approved, fully insured, family-run, and can provide material traceability on request. For load-bearing work the beam sizing is always set by a structural engineer’s calculation, and RSJ or wall-removal jobs need Building Control sign-off, both of which we factor into the programme from the start.
Why a county-based fabricator matters
Distance changes how a steel job runs. As an Oxfordshire fabricator we can get to a site for a survey quickly, which means accurate measurements before anything is cut rather than assumptions corrected on site later. Delivery is local: steel arrives when your slab or groundworks are ready, not when a national fabricator’s transport schedule allows. And when a question comes up during erection, it gets answered at the workshop the same day instead of disappearing into a chain of subcontractors.
That single-team model, in-house design plus our own workshop plus our own fitters, is the core of how we work. The staircase connection details are drawn by the people who weld them and bolted by the people who drew them, so nothing is lost in translation between consultants. For developers in particular, that local control is what keeps a programme sequenced.
Towns we cover across Oxfordshire
We work routinely across Oxfordshire, including:
- Oxford: structural steel for extensions and refurbishment, plus feature staircases and balconies, where restricted access and conservation-area properties are the norm
- Bicester: structural packages and staircases for the town’s fast-growing development pipeline, around fifteen minutes from our workshop
- Banbury: our home town, OX16, the full service range on the doorstep
We also serve Witney, Kidlington, Thame and the surrounding villages, with larger projects taken on UK-wide. Wherever the site is, the steel is still made in Banbury and installed by our own team.
Real Oxfordshire project proof
We back this up with work on the ground across the county. At Paddock House in Kingston Blount we designed and fabricated a bespoke steel-framed staircase with solid oak treads and frameless glass balustrades, engineering doing quiet work behind a joinery-grade finish. At Britwell Salome we completed the full manufacture and installation of a steel-framed residential house, a job that demands tighter tolerances than agricultural or industrial frames because every millimetre surfaces in the finished rooms.
In Bicester we delivered a complete structural steel package with a custom staircase for a development project, designed, fabricated and erected by one team. And at a private Oxford residence we replaced a stable roof and conservatory roof with supplementary support steel, the kind of smaller-scale refurbishment work we take on alongside full structural packages. You can see more of these case studies on our projects page.

Frequently asked questions
- Are you an Oxfordshire-based steel fabricator, or do you subcontract the work?
- We are a genuine Oxfordshire fabricator. Our workshop is on Thorpe Way Industrial Estate in Banbury, OX16, and fabrication is done in-house by our own coded welders. We do not broker jobs out: the same firm that quotes the work welds it and erects it.
- Which towns across Oxfordshire do you cover?
- We cover the whole county: Banbury (our base), Oxford, Bicester, Witney, Kidlington, Thame, Chipping Norton and the villages in between. For larger structural projects we also take on work UK-wide. Steel is always fabricated in Banbury and installed by our own erection team.
- What is the difference between your structural steelwork and your design and build service?
- Structural steelwork is the fabrication and installation of beams, columns and frames to a structural engineer's design. Design and build goes further: we take a project from concept through to a finished, erected structure, including groundworks, cladding and envelope where required, under one contract. Both are available across Oxfordshire.
