At Paddock House in Kingston Blount we designed and fabricated a bespoke steel-framed staircase combining structural steel, solid oak treads and frameless glass balustrades, with engineering doing quiet work behind a joinery-grade finish.
The brief
The client wanted a feature staircase: open, light, and contemporary, with the warmth of timber underfoot rather than the industrial look of an all-steel stair. The structure had to disappear into the design.
What we delivered
- Design: measured survey, stair geometry to building regulations, and detailed fabrication drawings agreed with the client
- Steel frame: fabricated internal steel stringers and carriage in our Banbury workshop, with concealed fixings and clean weld finishing for an exposed-steel standard
- Solid oak treads: full-depth oak treads fitted to the steel carriage
- Glass balustrades: sleek glass panels carried on the steel structure, keeping sight lines open through the stairwell
The result
A staircase that reads as furniture but performs as structure: solid underfoot, silent in use, and the centrepiece of the house.
